Securing your personal computer is not as complicated as you may think. There are a few simple things you can do that will ensure that your home computer is safe enough to prevent hackers from taking over your precious PC.
- When you are through working for the day, make sure you turn of your computer system every night. It is not wise to leave it on.
- Choose your password wisely. In fact it is better to your a phrase for your password, that way it will be very difficult for intruders to guess what your password is.
- Make sure auto-preview is disabled in your email client. This way you will not automatically trigger any virus or malicious script.
- Use HOSTS files to your advantage. These files are usually used with the operating system. However, is you are not sure what to do with this, you can avoid it as this file could be taken over by malicious programs.
- Always update your computer system by running the Windows update whenever they are available. Better still, turn on automatic update function on your Windows system.
- It is best to use WPA ( WiFi Protected Access) to set of your wireless security as against WEP(Wired Equivalent Privacy). WPA offers more security and flexibility than WEP.
- Make sure you turn on your Windows firewall or install a very reputable and effective firewall to ward off hackers. Note that an antivirus program is also required to make this security complete.
- Try not to use torrent software. Torrent programs helps you to download and share files. The bad news however, is that this can pose a security risk to your computer system.
