Who is an Affiliate?

In the context of Online marketing, an affiliate is a marketing associate who advertises or publishes other people’s products on a website and earns commission on products sold through the website. The major tools used are text links and graphics (banners). In some cases affiliates may not have a web site but are able to contact prospective buyers using email marketing. Affiliates and merchants normally agree to certain terms and conditions as well as how much commission or money will be earn through each sale.

How much can I earn as an Affiliate?

The amount of money or commission you can make as an affiliate depends on the type of product(s) you are promoting, your prospective customers or website traffic, and the size of your business or website. Affiliates can earn types of commissions. These are:
Pay-per-click
Pay-per-lead
Pay-per-sale
Per-per-display
As an affiliate, if a visitor from your website clicks on a banner or a link that leads to a merchant’s website, you are paid a commission. This only applies to pay-per-click. You can also be paid a commission if a visitor from your website clicks through to the merchant’s site and fills a form, you will receive a pay-per-lead commission. Also, if a visitor from your site clicks through to a merchant’s website and buys a product or more, you are paid a commission referred to as pay-per-sale. For pay-per-display, you are paid when you display a certain number of the merchant’s banners on your website. The type of commission you earn depends on what the merchants agrees to pay with respect to the contract.
There is therefore no limit to how much you can earn, but your money earning potentials depends on how much traffic you can drive to the merchants’ websites and the conversion rate.
