How to Speed Up Your Slow Running Computer Better and Cheaper Than They Advertise on TV
Computers running annoyingly slow have become a ubiquitous problem lately. So much so, there is a cottage industry forming where companies will take your money and promise you they will make your PC fast and run error free forever more.
Figuring out what they do, for a rather pricy price and what you can do for a lot less monetary damage, requires knowing just what makes your computer run slow and erratic. It also requires knowing how to correct the problem or problems without turning your computer and your checkbook over to a company, who all you know about, is that they make horrible commercials.
What Makes a Computer Slow?
First of all, malware, like spyware, adware, viruses and all other types of parasites can be detrimental to your PC’s performance. When a computer is running slow, these are the first things to look at. Spyware can also be detrimental to a person’s financial health because it can compromise his or her bank account numbers. Being well aware of this, most people have virus and spyware cleaners installed on their computer.
However, those who don’t, really have to get one or both these software products. At least, everybody should have a virus cleaner installed and since, virus cleaners detect most harmful types of spyware, computer owners may be able to get away with getting a free spyware scan occasionally to see if they have any incidents of malware on their hard drives that the virus scanner missed. Sometimes however, it is necessary to have both a virus scanner and a spyware scanner installed on the same computer.
Corruption Abounds
As time goes on, a lot more people are becoming wise to registry corruption. Registry corruption can make a computer erratic and slow. Sometimes, it can even render a computer unusable. Registry corruption causes more problems with Windows XP and Vista than to the older operating systems. So it has come to the forefront lately. Back in the days of Widows 98, it wasn’t as much an issue.
There are times I will be asked about a computer that has slowed down but doesn’t have any of the malware, such as spyware and viruses, and there is no registry corruption, either. This of course, means the problem slowing down the computer has to be something else. This something else is not analyzed at the base price by the TV computer fixing people!
Taking the Diver Test
This overlooked problem is usually a bad, misfit or outdated device driver. Device driver problems are never talked about in a conversation about computer quick fixes because traditionally, they are difficult to deal with. To repair a bad device driver using time-honored methods, a technician or computer owner would have to locate, usually by trial and error, which driver was causing problems. Then, he or she would have to go online and find a good up to date replacement for the driver. Then this person would need to download it and then go through the often tricky procedure required to install it.
Thank goodness, we don’t have to perform this complicated task this way anymore. Now we can use a driver scanner. It will do the whole job of checking for and finding drivers that need an upgrade and then they actually find and install the upgrade for us. They do this all in an easy click-a-button process.
So, there are most of the things that can slow down your computer and make it act up on you. The offenders, viruses, spyware and other types of malware and registry corruption, the TV companies will scan for and take care of. This is great if you don’t mind the price and the possible invasion of privacy.
However, the bad or misfit drivers are an extra little thing that you are now aware of. You can get free scans on your own to detect the main troublemaker in your PC. For instance, you can get a free virus scan, spyware scan, registry scan and driver scan.
In doing so, you won’t have to pay any money until you have located a particular problem. Then, if you have to buy a registry cleaner or driver scanner for instance, you will be getting a real bargain compared to what you would pay if you turned your computer insides over to a TV person. Certainly, you would save a lot of money over replacing your computer. Plus the aggravation of a slow running computer you would be avoiding, as a TV commercial for another product would say; priceless!
